OnePlus swears their flagship won’t overheat

We all know that the OnePlus 2 is coming our way towards the end of the month, and maybe another handset model from the same company will follow later on.

Most of the specs of the OnePlus 2 device have already leaked online, including the fact that the phone will rely on a Snapdragon 810 processor. This raises some concerns, as it is known that Qualcomm’s SoC has been suffering from overheating issues ever since it made a debut into products.

However, the OnePlus team swears their Snapdragon 810 won’t have the same problem. First of all, the OnePlus 2 will be making use of a revised version of the chip (v2.1). Secondly, the phone maker has apparently applied a thermal gel coating and graphite to the handset to keep it cool and fresh.

Even with all these precautions, leaked benchmark images seem to suggest that OnePlus might actually turn to thermal throttling to keep the temperature on board the phone in check.

OnePlus might resort to thermal throttling to solve the issues of the Snapdragon 810

In the images, we get to see a comparison between last year’s OnePlus One and this year’s model, and as you can notice, the results are pretty much on par, despite the fact that the soon-to-be-previous-gen model ran on the Snapdragon 801 platform (as seen at Gizmo China).

So it appears that OnePlus decided to play the safe card and underclocked the chipset, which is capable of much better results, in order to keep things safe.

Naturally, the phone being tested in the benchmark might just be an experimental unit OnePlus was toying with before launch, so until the real deal makes its way into the wild, we can’t really say for sure whether the Chinese company decided to play the safe card or not.

Anyway, if you missed the scoop on the upcoming OnePlus 2, we’re taking the opportunity to remind you that the phone arrives with a 5.7-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution) with 515ppi density.

The device is also supposed to arrive with 4GB of RAM, a large 3,300 mAh battery, USB Type-C port and either a 16MP or 13MP main camera. We will find out the exact capacity in just a few days.
