Amazing Weather HD to be pulled on March 17

Developers are one by one leaving Windows phones for reasons that absolutely make sense: the platform is losing the support of users, the market share collapses, and not even Microsoft tries to convince app makers to stay.

The latest to wave goodbye to Windows phones is Amazing Weather HD, which is undoubtedly one of the best weather apps at the moment on Microsoft’s smartphone operating system.

While many would argue that seeing Amazing Weather HD go is not such a big loss since there are so many other weather apps in the Windows Store, that’s completely wrong because this has been one of the best such apps from the very beginning.

EizSoft first announced that Amazing Weather HD would abandon Windows phones in December 2016, saying on Twitter that the app “is not available for sale anymore.” A recent tweet added that “we are trying to keep it alive as much as we can, our agreed stop date is 17th of March.” This means that the app should stop working in mid-March and users would no longer be able to download it from the store.

App features

Amazing Weather HD came with an impressive feature lineup, which includes support for 5 live tiles with auto-location feature based on the GPS of your phone. There were also customizable live tiles with themes, weather alerts, 7-day quick view weather forecast, detailed text and daily forecast, and info like UV, wind, visibility, humidity, and pressure.

After Amazing Weather HD is retired, users can very well stick with the default weather app developed by Microsoft (which doesn’t have alerts, but it does feature a transparent tile since 2016), or any other third-party app available in the Windows Store, such as AccuWeather.

Unfortunately, the departure of Amazing Weather HD once again shows that developers barely find a reason to stick with Windows phones, so it’s probably just a matter of time until another app maker does the same thing.
