14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 Mobile is now shipping to select devices across the world, and while everyone’s waiting for an official announcement from Microsoft, it appears that some specific Lumia models might be left behind.
Previously, Microsoft promised that Windows 10 Mobile would be released to all existing Windows Phone devices, no matter their hardware specifications, but Vodafone Australia has recently revealed that Lumia 630 will not be included in its release and will thus remain on Windows Phone.
While there are no reasons provided as to why Lumia 630 has been removed from the Windows 10 update program, it'll be interesting to find out whether this particular model would actually receive the upgrade to the new operating system in other regions of the world, especially considering Microsoft’s promise of an upgrade no matter the model.
Just 512 MB of RAM
Lumia 630 is one of the devices that come with 512 MB of RAM, and although running Windows 10 Mobile might be a serious challenge, Microsoft said that it would be possible with some restrictions. In other words, yes, the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will indeed be offered to devices with just 512 MB of RAM, but some features that would require higher processing power would not be available.
In addition, the Lumia 630 is powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor and comes with 8 GB of storage space and microSD card support for up to 128 GB of additional space.
It includes a 5-megapixel main camera, without a secondary unit, which makes it a less appealing choice for those who want to take selfies or start video calls.
For the moment, Microsoft is yet to confirm if any of the old Lumia phones would be removed from the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade list, but more information should be provided in the coming days, as the new rollout is expected to become official anytime soon.
