14 DAY TRIAL // Another iPhone 8 Plus has reportedly shipped with a swollen battery that pushed the screen out the body and exposed the device internals, according to reports.
This time, it all happened in China where a local buyer surnamed Liu purchased an iPhone 8 Plus from an online store, only to discover that the device was shipped cracked open. Photos that were published by local website ThePaper.cn show the iPhone 8 Plus with the screen popped out, just like it was the case with several other units that made the news in the last couple of weeks.
The front screen has bent in the area of the battery, exposing the device internals. The owner says that he didn’t even charge the phone and returned it immediately after opening the box for the very first time.
No sign of explosion
While it’s pretty clear that phone owners pay a lot of more attention to their devices after the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 saga, the iPhone 8 Plus here does not show any sign of explosion, though it’s not yet known how the battery became bloated inside the box.
An Apple spokesperson said the company is investigating the report, but no other details were provided, though it’ll be interesting to see if the buyer is offered another iPhone given that he purchased the device from a third-party company and not from Apple itself.
The number of reports pointing to iPhone 8 Plus shipping with faulty batteries is increasing at an alarming rate, and in 100 percent of the cases, they all concern the bigger model. The iPhone 8 Plus comes with batteries manufactured by ATL, which is the same company that produced the battery packs powering the exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 last year.
At this point, it’s not yet clear if this is a widespread issue because Apple keeps most of the details secret, but with more reports of faulty devices, the company might, in the end, be forced to at least tell us if there’s something going wrong with its new iPhones.
