You can now buy a "phone DSLR" with interchangeable lenses

In a rather controversial move Olympus, just as Sony, Oppo and Kodak before it, brings its new clip-on camera the Olympus Air A01, that you can attach to a smartphone and pair with a wireless connection to snap higher-quality images than you'd get using your phone's built-in camera.

Why do I say it's controversial? Because it cancels basically 1/3 of your initial phone's price by completely nullifying the money your spent on you built-in camera and have you buy a separate third-party camera probably just as expensive as your phone.

Anyway, back to the Olympus Air A01. This camera comes with something special. It comes with interchangeable lenses, in a word you can strap your camera to your mobile phone and turn it into a "professional" DSLR.

The Air A01 is ultra-portable, it allows you to place or mount it anywhere you want and it pairs wirelessly with any iOS or Android phone and will receive nicely any lens you throw at it. If you don't have a collection of lenses yet, you can buy a $499 (€449) bundle that includes the Air A01 and a 14-42mm EZ lens.

The Olympus Air A01 features a 16-megapixel sensor, TruePic VII image processor, and support for RAW image capture, consecutive shooting mode with 10 frames per second, 1080p video capture and 1/16,000th of a second maximum shutter speed.

It comes with a built-in battery and a microSD card for saving images and it's designed to work with any apps you have installed on your phone to share via social networks, mail or other apps.

The camera can be bought for $299 (€269) with no lens or display but any Micro Four Thirds standards will be compatible with the camera right away.
