We’re virtually two weeks away from Samsung’s next Unpacked event, which will be held in New York on August 13. During the event, the Korean tech giant is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ phablets.

So far, the two devices have been covered in extensive leaks, so we have a pretty good idea of what we should expect when the two phones make an official debut. And feeding straw to the fire, popular leakster Evan Blass has revealed the first two official renders of the upcoming phablets.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+  is expected to be launched globally and rumor has is that Samsung aims to pour a lot of cash into its marketing campaign. The device is basically the Galaxy S6 edge but coming with a larger, 5.7-inch display.

As for the Galaxy Note 5, word on the street would have us believe that Samsung is planning to launch the device in select markets at first, so the phone will see limited availability initially.

Galaxy Note 5 spec roundup

The Galaxy Note 5 should hit the market with a 5.7-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and will draw power from an Exynos 7422 processor under the hood. The chipset represents an improved version compared to the Exynos 7420, which can be found running under the hood of the Galaxy S6.

The Note 5 should be Samsung’s first device coming out with 4GB of RAM on board. Moreover, the phone will take advantage of the services of a 16MP camera as the main shooter, plus a 5MP selfie snapper.

We’re also told the Galaxy Note 5 might come to resolve some of the biggest problems the Galaxy S6 was confronted with. For starters, it is expected to pack a larger 4,100 mAh battery and will arrive equipped with a microSD card slot to be used for memory expansion. Nevertheless, the battery is not removable.

Last but not least, according to the latest hearsay, the Galaxy Note 5 won’t bundle the new USB Type-C standard, unlike new phone models such as the OnePlus 2. It seems like good old Sammy needs more time before it can incorporate the new USB type into its products.
