A cosplayer's dream, the Communicator can even be practical

It's hard to imagine the old-school Star Trek series without some crucial nostalgia-feeding objects like the Enterprise ship itself, the crew shirts or the uniform comm-badges.

Lots of Star Trek paraphernalia have been replicated in different forms and sizes as toys or somehow working gadgets just to inspire fun and awe among Trekkies. However, their functionality has been fairly limited, never being considered more than toys.

Yet, starting with January of 2016, you'll finally be able to buy an official, 100% accurate, Bluetooth-enabled Star Trek Series Communicator.

Technically speaking, this replica is not a very complicated machine, being just a simple Bluetooth handset with some basic functionality, it takes calls (hence Communicator) and it even plays music.

But it's not what it can do, it's how it looks, and of course it must be 100% accurate with the one in the series. The Communicator is a die-cast metal, aluminum and ABS replica modeled after a 3D scan of the original "Alpha Hero" prop, built by the Wand Company.

Put it on its magnetic charging connector and the unit turns into a pretty nice display piece, too.

However, the Communicator will cost $150 when it starts shipping in January, pretty much the same price it asks for most of its products.
