A good price/performance offer for SSD entry level users

Today OCZ announced the launching of its Toshiba Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND flash with Toshiba controller technology Trion 100 TLC SSD series with a good balance between performance and price, perfect for entry level SSD users.

OCZ managed to pull Toshiba into this product and offer excellent prices-per-gigabyte. The Trion 100 features 19nm TLC NAND flash chips made by Toshiba with its Toshiba controller featuring SLC-caching tech that deals with a small portion of the NAND flash by storing one bit per cell giving a maximum sequential transfer performance.

The new drive is designed for mainstream users that aren't used with the high-speed capabilities of SSD drives. The Trion 100 comes with different available capacities of 120GB to 960GB, while also providing up to 250 TB total bytes written (TBW).

Its sequential read speeds go up to 550MB/s while its sequential write speeds go to 530MB/s with a random read I/O performance going up to 90,000 IOPS including the 4K random-read performance. With such capabilities, OCZ hopes that Trion 100 SATA III SSDs will provide enough system responsiveness to enable increased multitasking and productivity for end users.

Your money will be well spent

Trion 100 also comes with SSD Guru, OCZ's new, easy-to-use management software tool, helping the user to control its drive maintenance, monitoring, SSD tuning, OS optimization, firmware updating and formatting.

Price-wise, the Trion 100 stands excellently at prices ranging from $56 (50) to $369 (333) even though offering a modest storage capacity. However, for 956 GBs to ask $369 (333) is not something to be overlooked. In comparison with this, we can see Samsung's latest 2TB release pricing at around $989 (891) which is more than double the price for double the storage space. We can safely assume that even though for nearly 1TB less, you get more bang for your buck from OCZ.

The new SSD comes built in the 7 mm-thick 2.5-inch form-factor, with a SATA 6 Gb/s interface. It also offers a 3-year warranty with the aforementioned recommended 250 TB TBW.
