Samsung’s recall of the Galaxy Note 7 has been in the news for the past few days and it seems that the implications of the company’s decision are still unfolding. A report by SamMobile, shows that Oculus VR company is warning its customers against the use of Gear VR headsets with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones.

Samsung’s decision to recall Galaxy Note 7 units was taken after multiple reports claimed that the smartphones simply stared catching fire while charging. It seems that the battery inside some Note 7 units is faulty, specifically battery units produced by Samsung SDI, which are found in 70% of all units. A global recall would ensure that battery explosions no longer occur and that consumers wouldn’t be potentially harmed.

Oculus VR, the maker of Gear VR headsets sold together with the Galaxy Note 7, issued a warning saying that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 owners shouldn’t pair their devices with the Gear VR. The warning is posted on the company’s web page for the Gear VR and it seems that the Note 7 was even removed from the list of compatible devices.

Oculus sent emails to warn users against pairing the Gear VR with the Note 7

Oculus urges Note 7 owners to contact Samsung and replace their smartphones before using them together with the Gear VR. Reportedly, Oculus has even sent emails to its customers, urging them not to use the Gear VR with Samsung’s latest flagship.

There haven’t been reports of Gear VR units catching fire or Note 7 smartphones exploding while being attached to the headset, but considering the potential damage that such an incident could cause, one cannot be too careful. This is one of those cases in which users better stay safe and not risk pairing the two devices.

The new Gear VR was launched together with the Galaxy Note 7 last month and it offers a wider field-of-view, as well as improved padding, a new navigation area and a new adapter for using with smartphones that have microUSB and USB Type-C ports.
