No more loneliness while watching Oculus Rift movies

Probably one of the most instantly admired and coveted apps for Oculus Rift, Oculus Cinema will get a "multiplayer" feature.

Experiencing VR is generally a lonesome business in present-day virtual games and apps, which basically place you against a very immersive environment. But no more.

Oculus Cinema was first presented nearly a year ago as the perfect cinema environment simulator, where you'd stay in an empty virtual cinema hall while your favorite movie plays on a massive screen. Although impressive for its virtual reality simulation environment, it was also a very lonely experience.

However, at this year's Gamescom event, Oculus Rift presented a "multiplayer" element for the project, letting different players share the same cinema hall, watch movies together, and interact through different avatars.

One of the key multiplayer functionalities will be the fact that viewers who share the same cinema hall won't really need to be in the same room, but they could watch the same movie in the same cinema hall while being miles away from each other.

Oculus Rift developers believe that Oculus Cinema will come with the VR set right at launch, and will be much richer in social features, some not yet announced, than the version currently available to developers.

Although the Oculus Cinema will also be available on Gear VR from Samsung, it's unknown if the app will be shared between users of both Gear VR and Oculus Rift at the same time.
