Undercutting is the way to go in the summer of 2015

A sub-$150 product offering that should compete with AMD's Radeon R7 370 is scheduled to come from NVIDIA in the shape of GeForce GTX 950Ti.

Arriving with a new SKU, this chip will replace and succeed the GTX 750 Ti and is expected to use the 28 nm "GM206" silicon. More than that, it appears it'll feature a variant ASIC code called GM206-250, different from the GTX 960's GM206-300.

A lower price version of the GTX 960 would come by either cutting down the CUDA core count (which is 1,024 per sillicon), or by cutting down the clock-speeds or a combination of the two. The GTX 950Ti chip will feature a narrow 128-bit GDDR5 interface compared to the larger 256-bit memory bus on its competing R7 370 Trinidad chip.

Although no prices have been announced, it's clear that it will probably sell cheaper than the R7 370 which is logical; however, we must keep in mind that one of AMD's main advantages is being a master NVIDIA undercutter, bringing comparable technology at lower prices. NVIDIA usually never saw the undercutting solution as bringing too many advantages to its business practices.

Summer is here, stop-gap measures abound

However, AMD's launch of its new Radeon series this June forced Nvidia to actually seek stop-gap measures until it can counter the new R9 and R7 300 line from AMD with a more complete 900 series.

We should also keep in mind this information is very fresh, and while AMD's own benchmarks compare to Radeon R7 370 and R7 360 to GTX 750 Ti and 750 respectively, the advent of a new GM206 graphics card will surely cause trouble to Radeon R7 300 products.

Keeping in mind that NVIDIA is also planning a possible price reduction on all of its top-tier graphics cards in US as a direct result of its competition with AMD, and having a healthy prices pool in Europe, bringing a new GTX 950 Ti as a cut-down, price comparable GTX 960, will surely put massive pressure on AMD for lowering its prices even further.

According to the guys at Videocardz, prices and detailed specs are still unknown but more is to be revealed soon.
