Nvidia fights back against AMD with surprise price undercuts

Already dropped in the US at the start of June, the prices of Nvidia's GTX 980, GTX 980Ti and Titan X are still kept high in Europe thanks to excellent sales reports KitGuru.

Apparently, the prices drop that can go down to 10% in the US is caused by the tight competition between AMD and Nvidia in the States, while in Europe Nvidia easily dominates the high-end graphics cards market.

However, once the new R9 Radeon 300 series have been launched at similar prices or lower than Nvidia's top tier products, the tightening of US competition has clearly prompted Nvidia to lower its prices again to stay competitive.

Boasting the new Fiji GPU and coming together with cutting edge HBM stacked memory technology, such a sharp move from Nvidia will set AMD on fire, as it can't remain competitive selling top-end graphics at prices higher than Nvidia's while having weak selling figures in non-US countries.

Such a radical move will force AMD to sell its freshly launched Fury X at prices lower than planned, and for such a new card this move can translate into a disaster. It was expected though for Nvidia to drop prices of course, but only for its lower-end products like the 700 or 600 series but not top tier 900 and Titan series.

This surprise undercut, however, is possible only because Nvidia has a strong market in Europe and a safe pool of potential buyers, affording to suddenly cut prices in AMD's backyard.

Europe might follow soon though as is possible for select countries to enjoy Nvidia's latest price cuts.
