NVIDIA thinks SHIELD will laugh at Apple's TV box attempt

Yesterday, during its event, Apple showed its new upgraded TV box, underlining the new OS it comes with, access to TV-based apps, as well as the fact that it acts as a living room gaming device.

Although Apple doesn't really innovate anything with the new device, as the market is full of very similar devices from both Sony and Samsung, NVIDIA has joined the critical voices in outlining the banality of Apple's new upgraded Apple TV.

The new Apple TV features pretty much anything you'll get from a casual high-end 4K TV from Sony, for instance, as we’ve recently reviewed, things like a remote control with a touch-sensitive panel and a built-in microphone, which enables users to issue voice and search commands to Siri.

However, while Tim Cook bragged that Apple TV would have the most of the main features of any currently available TV box covered while also providing a vast variety of channels to choose from, NVIDIA has stated on their blog that their SHIELD Android TV box has a few more, as do a few other Android based boxes, while SHIELD is the only product to support 4K video content and HDMI 2.0 technology.

NVIDIA takes on Apple in the battle for TVs

To hurt Apple's pride even more, NVIDIA boasts almost three times the benchmark performance of the latest Apple TV and much better performance over the likes of the Nexus Player or the Amazon Fire TV. You'll also enjoy game streaming from PC, GRID cloud gaming, something we consider a risky initiative, including a selection of "console-class" games.

Right now, it's very hard for bystanders to actually make their mind, although NVIDIA does have a top-class pedigree of video solutions that sell well together with thoroughly implemented branding and price availability. In other words, there is no reason you shouldn't take NVIDIA's word for it, especially when a comparison chart sent to Android Authority lays out clearly all you need to know about the two devices.
