14 DAY TRIAL // Today, December 14, 2016, Nvidia released a bunch of updated graphics drivers for UNIX platforms, including GNU/Linux on 64-bit, 32-bit, and ARM, as well as FreeBSD and Solaris operating systems.
Nvidia 375.26 is out as the latest long-lived branch, which means that it's recommended for all users running a previous version of the graphics driver on their Linux, BSD, or Solaris distributions. This release resolves numerous issues reported by users lately, and adds initial support for Nvidia Quadro M3000 SE GPUs.
It also implements support for the screen_info.ext_lfb_base field to properly handle Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) framebuffer consoles that have their physical addresses above 4GB. However, please note that the functionality must be supported by the kernel of your operating system. There's also a fix for the issues with the CONFIG_HARDENED_USERCOPY feature in Linux kernel 4.8 and newer versions.
"Fixed an interaction problem between the Linux kernel's CONFIG_HARDENED_USERCOPY feature (new in Linux kernel 4.8) and nvidia-drm.ko with modeset=1 enabled. This problem caused CONFIG_HARDENED_USERCOPY to erroneously halt the system, issuing reports of the form: usercopy: kernel memory overwrite attempt detected to ffff8803e8ec7ce0 () (8 bytes)," said Nvidia in the release notes.
X.Org Server 1.19 (ABI23) support finally lands for the legacy drivers
Also today, Nvidia updated (finally!) the graphics drivers from the 340.x and 304.x series supporting legacy Nvidia GPUs to version 340.101 and 304.134, respectively. As expected, these new builds add support for the recently released X.Org Server 1.19 display server, but also fix a bug in the nvidia-installer when loading kernel modules.
