Survey shows 73% of Android users would have switched to iPhone if Apple still offered a headphone port

The never-ending lack of a headphone jack on the iPhone 7 saga continues with a new episode, as a recently-conducted survey reveals that at least 73 percent of the Android users would have moved to Apple should the company offered a 3.5mm audio connector on the device.

Yahoo Finance says it surveyed 7,741 people to determine whether Apple’s decision to remove the audio port is seen as a good move by iPhone and Android users and the results speak for themselves: 71% of iPhone users said this was a bad move, and 73% of Android users claim they don’t even think about getting the iPhone 7 just because of that thing.

On the good side for Apple, most iPhone 7 users say they are OK with the lack of a headphone jack right now, explaining they’ve learned to live with the change and only 40 percent of them admitting they considered replacing the iPhone 7 with a different device.

iPhone users ready to jump ship

And now the bad news. The survey reveals that 69% of the existing iPhone users with older models that do have a headphone jack hate the change and delay the upgrade, and 66% of them even admitted they would be more willing to purchase another iPhone, like the SE, just because it has a headphone jack.

55% of them said that if the headphone jack is gone from all iPhones, they’re gone as well, as they’d rather switch to a different device that does come with the audio connector.

Despite the criticism, there’s no doubt that Apple won’t be bringing back the audio connector, and the iPhone 8, which is projected to launch as soon as this September, will stick with the Lightning port that the company is betting so big on.

And while it’s worrying for Apple that so many users do not agree with the change and seem to be ready to jump ship, it turns out that more manufacturers would follow in their footsteps and remove the audio connector from their next models. After HTC U11, the Google Pixel XL 2 is also likely to come without a 3.5mm audio connector.
