Nokia's network infrastructure business brings the highest revenue from the group of companies that are now living under the Finnish company brand.

Since the HERE maps unit will soon be sold to a consortium of German carmakers and the mobile division has been sold to Microsoft, there's only the network infrastructure and R&D and licensing businesses left inside Nokia's group of companies.

However, since the Finnish company confirmed plans to return to the smartphone business, there's a chance that a new division will be created that will be fully committed to turn Nokia into a major player in the smartphone market once again.

Until then though, Nokia announced a VIP event for July 28, which will take place in Los Angeles, United States.

Unlike previous rumors that claimed the event could be related to HERE maps unit, Recode reports Nokia could unveil its first virtual reality headset.

Nokia has always been a pioneer when it comes to new technology, but when it comes to virtual reality the company is kind of late to the party.

The Finnish company will face stiff competition from Sony, HTC, Facebook, Samsung and Microsoft, all of which having announced their own virtual reality headsets.

Nokia Technologies is to “blame” for the new product

With the upcoming announcement, Nokia hopes to become a serious player in the consumer electronics world once again. However, in order to do that, its next product should be really revolutionary.

According to the cited source, the virtual reality headset to be announced later this month comes from Nokia Technologies, the company that focuses on advanced R&D for licensing and new product businesses.

No details on what sort of virtual reality headset Nokia plans to announced on July 28, but as we're getting closer to announcement we hope to more info will leak online, so stay tuned.
