14 DAY TRIAL // It looks like 2016 will be the year of Nokia. Fans of the Finnish company who never stopped hoping for Nokia's comeback in the smartphone business will be pleased to know that three new Android handsets might be launched this year.
First of all, a few new live pictures showing a Nokia prototype smartphone have just leaked directly from China via Weibo.
Also, according to NPU, the Finnish company is actively working on no less than three Android smartphones that will be launched sometime this year.
Unfortunately, the pictures showing the prototype does not reveal much about the phone's specs, but at least we can see that it's “Property of Nokia.”
The smartphone could pack a 5- or 5.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display. There's also a photo snapper on the back, which features LED flash.
This Nokia prototype does not seem to feature a fingerprint sensor on the back, and since it doesn't come with a physical Home button, there's no chance that it will pack one.
Naturally, it will come preloaded with Android operating system, possibly Marshmallow, since it will only be released later this year.
Nokia won't manufacture smartphones anymore
The Finnish company has already confirmed that it will re-enter the smartphone market this year, but not the way most of us are thinking.
Nokia will only design the smartphones while its partners will manufacture and sell them. Hopefully, Nokia will find the right partners to launch its first Android smartphones.
“We will look for suitable partners. We would simply design them and then make the brand name available to license,” said Nokia's CEO Rajeev Suri, last year.
As we're getting closer to release, we expect more information about Nokia's plans for 2016 to leak online. Even if the Finnish company doesn't launch three handsets this year, we can safely assume that at least one Android phone will make it to market in 2016.
