An entry-level smartphone aimed at emerging markets?

The first Nokia-branded smartphones in a long time are expected to be announced next month at Mobile World Congress trade fair. HMD Global, the Finnish company that bought the license to release Nokia-branded handsets, will unveil at least two Android devices in late February.

However, word has it that HMD plans to launch at least 6 or even 7 new Nokia-branded smartphones by the end of 2017. Among them, the Nokia D1 and E1 are expected to make their debut in Q1-Q2 2017.

While we know quite a lot about the Nokia D1, also known as D1C, few details about the enigmatic Nokia E1 have been leaked out. Luckily, Nokia fans will be pleased to know that new information about the E1 has just been published by the folks over at NokiaPowerUser.

Judging by the list of specs leaked recently, the Nokia E1 seems to be an entry-level device rather than a mid-range one. The one thing that might make it stand out from other smartphones in the same price tier could be the fact that it will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat.

As far as price goes, the source of the leak doesn't mention anything about Nokia E1's retail price, but previous rumors claim HMD plans to launch very cheap Nokia-branded smartphones that could go on sale for as low as $150.

Obviously, that's not a confirmation that the E1 will cost $150, but it could be. Moving on to the actual specs, Nokia E1 is expected to pack either a 5.2-inch or a 5.3-inch display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

On the inside, the smartphone will be equipped with a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory (possibly expandable via microSD card).

Nokia E1 will come with a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, along with a secondary 5-megapixel camera in the front. No word on the battery, but with these specs, it shouldn't matter that much.
