A 16MP camera with 1-pixel size can make wonders

With the launch of Nokia 6, HMD Global hopes to gain enough hype before the big reveal at Mobile World Congress in late February. The mid-range smartphone that is now exclusively available in China might eventually go on sale globally in the coming months.

However, by the time Nokia 6 gets launched in other countries, HMD Global might introduce other Android smartphones with much better specs. We reported earlier today about the Nokia 8 flagship, which is expected to go official at MWC 2017 next month.

The Nokia 8, internally known as Nokia Supreme, will be equipped with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and an impressive 24-megapixel rear-facing camera, which will feature Super EIS and OIS (optical image stabilization).

Nokia has been known for its great camera phones and the new smartphones launched by HMD Global seem to be no exception. Even though it's a mid-range device, the Nokia 6 packs a 16-megapixel rear camera with a 1-pixel size sensor, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), dual-LED flash and f/2.0 aperture.

Great color reproduction and dynamic range

The phone can't record 4K video, probably due to the low-power Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor inside. But that's not really an issue since most will use it to take pictures and shoot full HD (1080p@30 fps) videos.

The quality of the pictures shot with the Nokia 6 seems unusually high for a mid-range smartphone, but as mentioned earlier, it doesn't come as a surprise.

A couple of camera samples have been taken from the Nokia 6 launch event in China and published by Chinese blog DGTle.com. You'll notice the pictures have a great color reproduction and dynamic range.

If Nokia 6's 16-megapixel camera can take such good photos, we can safely assume the upcoming Nokia 8 will shoot even better pictures thanks to its 24-megapixel camera. Check out the camera samples in the gallery and let us know what you think.
