Finnish company HMD Global, the exclusive licensee of the Nokia brand for phones and tablets, unveiled a new Nokia smartphone powered by Google's Android mobile OS, the Nokia 2.

Nokia 2 is an entry-level smartphone for the masses, featuring a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 5-inch capacitive touchscreen with 720x1280 pixels resolution, 16:9 ratio and approximately 294 PPI density, as well as about 67.4% screen-to-body ratio, 1 GB of RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 Quad-Core CPU, and Adreno 304 GPU.

The device has been designed from the offset to last longer than expected, perfect for those who travel a lot. Therefore, its LTPS LCD screen not only is sharp and bright but is built to consume less battery power. Talking about the battery, Nokia 2 features a powerful 4100 mAh battery that should last up to two days from one charge.

"The Nokia 2 brings together crafted aluminum, Corning Gorilla Glass and sculpted polycarbonate for high durability with a sleek, modern design. This is a phone that delivers premium quality from the very first glance to everyday use," said HMD Global. "The Nokia 2 is built with one of the most trusted chipsets available."

Comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but it's upgradable to Android Oreo

The device is powered by Google's Android 7.1.1 Nougat mobile operating system, which is clean and clutter-free, but HMD Global promises to roll out the latest Android 8.0 Oreo update in the shortest time possible. It also comes built-in with Google Assistant and Google Photos, and features Doze mode for extended battery life.

While on the front Nokia 2 sports a 5 MP camera, on the back there's an 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, and 720p at 30fps video recording. Connectivity wise, the device supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth LE 4.1 A2DP, and GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, and BDS.

Nokia 2 has only 8GB internal storage, but it can be easily extended to up to 128GB using a microSD card. The device also features a microUSB 2.0 port and accelerometer, proximity, and compass sensors, and FM radio with RDS. It comes in Pewter/Black, Pewter/White, and Copper/Black variants, and has a price tag of only $140 USD (€120 EURO).
