The Node.js Foundation has announced its first ever Board of Directors, which will be led by Danese Cooper, member of PayPal's open source technical staff.
The Node.js Foundation was created in February 2015, with the purpose of governing the development of the Node.js platform, which allows for JavaScript to be run on server-side environments.
The Foundation was necessary for the Node.js community, which at that time was starting to split between the original Node.js core and a new branch, io.js.
Soon after its creation, The Linux Foundation pledged its support, and also took The Node.js Foundation on as an official Linux Foundation Collaborative Project.
This meant The Node.js Foundation would be independently funded but was to be overseen by members of the Linux Foundations until they deem it stable enough to manage itself.
A Board of Directors full of big names
In the meantime, big-name companies that deployed instances of Node.js in their infrastructure joined as members, wanting to help steer the Foundation away from the shaky ground it was on at that moment.
Yesterday, on September 4, the first-ever Board of Directors was elected.

Besides the board members from the table above, the Foundation also chose to appoint Bill Fine, Joyent Vice-President of Product and Marketing, as the Foundation's Marketing Chairperson.
Additionally, Mikeal Rogers, long time contributor to the Node.js codebase, was also hired as Community Manager by The Linux Foundation.
One day later, the first Node.js version that also features the io.js codebase was released as version 4.0.0 RC1.
