Microsoft making changes to services used to ship builds

Microsoft has recently announced that no new Windows 10 builds will be released to insiders this week, as the company is working on upgrading its internal services used for approving and monitoring builds rolled out as part of the program.

Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, has said in a post in the Feedback Hub that insiders should start getting new builds as soon as next week.

“We are performing some upgrades this week to our services that are used to approve and monitor builds from the Development Branch to our Windows Insiders. Once the upgrade is complete, just as we flight the OS through the rings, we will be flighting the service upgrades through the internal rings first. We won’t have any new builds from the Development Branch for you this week, but plan to return to schedule next week,” Dona explains.

Additionally, it’s worth knowing that, while these internal upgrades are being performed, you might not be allowed to modify Windows Insider settings, such as changing rings.

The Wi-Fi bug fix

The next Windows 10 build is particularly important for insiders because it’s supposed to fix a bug breaking down Wi-Fi on a number of devices, including old Surface models and PCs with Marvell drivers. Microsoft has already acknowledged the bug and said that a fix would be included in the next Windows 10 build, which was originally expected to ship sometime this week.

In the meantime, users’ only option is to roll back to a previous build or switch to a wired Internet connection, otherwise, they won’t be able to connect to the Internet.

And given the fact that the next build will be released via Windows Update, users with just a wireless connection won’t be able to download it and get the fix, so rolling back could become the only solution.

We’ll keep an eye on what Microsoft announces in the coming days and let you know when a new Windows 10 build becomes available for insiders.
