14 DAY TRIAL // Apple’s battery replacement program for the iPhone 6 and later is alive and kicking, and even though the price cut from $79 to $29 is available through December 2018, customers seem to be in a rush to get a new battery unit for their devices.
In the last few weeks, I’ve seen lots of users getting in touch with Apple on social media and asking for information on how to get an appointment for the battery replacement despite not even being sure they need one.
This made me think that Apple Support and Store engineers are incredibly busy these days dealing with all the requests, and after discussing with several store employees, I also got the confirmation.
Some Apple Stores have placed hundreds of battery replacement requests in queue, as many of them not only that are running at maximum capacity with no appointments available, but they’re also waiting for new batteries to be shipped before completing the repairs.

Comments posted online by Apple employees also confirm that it’s impossible to make an appointment right now as all spots are reserved.
And this leads us to a very simple advice: unless you really need a new iPhone battery right now, you should wait a little bit longer because the battery replacement program is available until the end of the year. So despite some media recommending iPhone owners to go to the Apple Store right now, don’t do it because the chances are you won’t be able to get an appointment, not to mention that you might end up waiting for several hours only to run the diagnostics.
Here’s a small excerpt from Apple’s original announcement that everyone seems to ignore these days:
“Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 — from $79 to $29 — for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, available worldwide through December 2018.” (emphasis is ours)
And if you’re still not convinced that you can wait a few more months to have your iPhone battery replaced, look at the whole thing this way: the later you do it, the longer the new unit is going to last.
