Samsung might be taking a break from Edged phones soon

While the current consensus on the street is that Samsung will launch an Edge variant of the upcoming Galaxy Note 5, repeating last year's scenario, a new report claims that this will not actually be the case.

In 2014, Samsung proved that it was a device maker that liked to experiment with its products, so at IFA 2015 it unveiled the Galaxy Edge smartphone - the first phone to make a debut into the wild with a secondary, curved display.

Even if the device didn’t prove to be a massive hit with consumers, the Galaxy Edge did show that people were curious and willing to try out new phone form factors. So Sammy saw fit to keep persuading the path it had embarked upon and released the Galaxy S6 edge this year.

We’ve also been hearing that Samsung is planning to unleash a larger version of the Galaxy S6 edge, which has been dubbed the Galaxy S6 Plus.

No second-gen Galaxy Note Edge coming this year

But if we’re to listen to the current rumor, Samsung is going to stop here with the Edge variants this year. According to Chinese website sq.qq.com, the Korean tech giant won’t launch an Edge version of the Galaxy Note 5, so the phablet will be launched by itself and not accompanied as it happened last year.

To mainstream consumers, this decision won't be of such great importance. After all, we still get two Edge phones, as it was originally anticipated, with the Galaxy S6 Plus expected to arrive a little before IFA 2015.

Still, the Galaxy S6 Plus will not take advantage of the S-Pen functionality Sammy’s phablets have been known for. Moreover, the side panel of the Note Edge was designed to feature a bunch of various functions including favorite apps, running apps, RAM and data usage meters, and so on. The Galaxy S6 edge’s side panel has these functions toned down a bit, focusing less on productivity.

If the Galaxy S6 Plus turns out to be Samsung’s choice, the few Note Edge enthusiasts out there might be in for quite a disappointment. But keeping in mind that the Galaxy S6 edge proved more popular than the Note Edge, the company might want to replicate the success in the phablet sector too by betting big on the Galaxy S6 Plus instead.

Evidently, the claim that Samsung won’t release an Edge variant of its Galaxy Note 5 remains in the speculation realm for now. But would you be disappointed not to see a second-gen Galaxy Note Edge arrive into the wild?
