Samsung UK says no update is coming to the camera/phone

The Galaxy K Zoom represents one of Samsung’s attempts at building an atypical smartphone. The device, which got introduced back in 2014, is a blend between a camera and a phone and we haven’t seen many similar models on the market so far.

The Galaxy K Zoom shipped out with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, and naturally, owners were hoping their smartphone would be given the Android 5.0 Lollipop treatment at some point.

We’re afraid we have a little bit of bad news in this regard, at least for owners of the Galaxy K Zoom who live in the UK. When asked about a specific date for when the phone would get the Lollipop treatment, Samsung UK replied on Twitter that the phone was not eligible for the upgrade.

That doesn’t mean no Galaxy K Zoom around the world will receive Lollipop. As we have seen in the past, some regional variants might get the update and some might not. We don’t know why that is the case exactly, but the same story applied to the Galaxy S4 mini.

Samsung UK doesn’t really give a reason why the update won’t be pushed in the country, but we might as well speculate that the phone’s outdated hardware is the problem here.

Samsung Galaxy K Zoom spec roundup

The phone arrives in the wild with a 4.8-inch display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and 306 ppi. Its power source is an Exynos 5260 chipset from Samsung’s own garden, which works in combination with Mali-T624, 2GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot up to 64GB).

Samsung has attached on the back of the device a powerful 20.7MP main camera that offers auto/manual focus, 10x optical zoom (24-240mm), optical image stabilization, Xenon & LED flash, plus a 2MP selfie snapper.

The K Zoom is capable of shooting 1080p video up to 60 frames per second and offers a nifty slow-motion video mode as well. Samsung calls the device “a phone with cool camera stuff,” and all in all, the handset is pretty interesting, even if its outdated specs won’t probably impress many these days.

Even so, it’s pretty disappointing that the Galaxy K Zoom won’t get updated to Lollipop.
