The Galaxy Ace 4 is a pretty low-end device

Software updates for middle to low-end devices are a hit and miss affair. Usually, when a new build makes its way into the wild, device manufacturers will race to offer it to their flagship devices. But the middle-range portfolio isn’t always so lucky.

Back in April, a report came in saying that the Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 LTE (SM-G313F), Samsung Galaxy Ace Style LTE (SM-G357) and Samsung Galaxy Ace Style (SM-G357FZ) would also receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Since then, owners of these respective models have been waiting for Samsung to deliver the goods, but to no avail.

Unfortunately, today we have some bad news for Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 owners located in the UK. Samsung UK responded to a tweet asking about the update for this device model by saying that the Galaxy Ace 4 would not be the recipient of such treatment (as seen at You Mobile). Bummer.

Since the phone is pretty low-end, porting Android 5.0 Lollipop onto it would be pretty problematic. A few months ago, UK carrier Three took to Twitter to reveal that the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini would not get the Lollipop update.

But immediately after, Three Ireland said that the update for the same phone had been approved and had started to roll out. Apparently, the version provided by the Irish carrier was a different one.

So even if the Samsung Galaxy Ace doesn’t get Lollipop in the UK, it might be updated in some other parts of the globe.

You probably don’t remember at this point, but the Galaxy Ace 4 arrives with a 4.3-inch display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution and 271ppi. Keeping things moving under the hood is a Snapdragon 410 SoC with a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU and Adreno 306 GPU.

The low-end phone also takes advantage of 1GB of RAM and 4GB of native storage (expandable via microSD card up to 64GB), so it’s understandable why Samsung feels that Android 5.0 Lollipop will not be running smoothly on this particular model.

The handset also comes with a 5MP main camera and a 1.3M selfie snapper up in front. It ships out with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, and by the looks of things, it will keep running this version of the OS. At least in the UK.
