After the successful launch of Super Mario Run on the iOS platform, Nintendo is looking to the next year with great confidence. The Japanese company plans to continue to launch mobile games, but 2017 will be very important for Nintendo due to the launch of its new Switch console.

With more than 40 million downloads in the first few days after its release, Super Mario Run is the top grossing app in many countries. But Nintendo won't stop and plans to surpass 100 million downloads during the game's lifetime.

The number might seem impossible to achieve, but considering that Super Mario Run hasn't yet been released on Android, Nintendo's plan has high chances of succeeding.

Although the Japanese company hasn't announced when Super Mario Run will arrive on Android, the release on Google's platform will open it up to a much larger audience and will greatly boost the number of downloads.

According to Nintendo's President Tatsumi Kimishima, mobile could become his company's main business due to the reach potential and the high amount of revenue it can generate after a successful global launch, PocketGamer reports.

On top of that, Kimishima hopes that the release of numerous mobile games will increase the hype around the Nintendo Switch, which is expected to go on sale in March 2017.

Nintendo also confirmed plans to launch two or three new mobile games in 2017. Two of them will be adaptations of its Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises. Depending on how well they will be received by fans, Nintendo might or might not continue to release mobile games.

Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are lesser-known titles from Nintendo's portfolio, which is why is safe to assume they won't be as popular as Super Mario Run. However, the Japanese company has lower expectations in regard to these two mobile games, but how low it remains to be seen.
