The Nexus 8 might also launch towards the end of 2015

Google failed to announce any new Nexus hardware during its I/O 2015 conference in late May, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any new Nexus devices this year.

Actually, Google is preparing to unveil the next-gen Nexus 5 (manufactured by LG) and the new Huawei Nexus in the upcoming months. Actually, we;ve recently told you that the Nexus 5 (2015) might be made available as soon as September 29.

But there’s another surprise Google might have in store for us. A few days ago, we told you that the “mythical” Nexus 8 tablet showed up in benchmarks, revealing that a tablet might be coming this year too. The thing is, before the Nexus 9 got announced during the I/O 2014, the rumor mill was whispering that a Nexus 8 tablet was coming along.

Is this a prototype of the Nexus 8?

Now, a bunch of pictures claiming to show the Nexus 8 dummy unit have surfaced in China revealing that the slate might bring about an all-metal build (as seen at GSM Arena via Mobilissimo).

The device was photographed next to a ruler, showing it measures just about 200mm in length, which is the proper height for an 8-inch tablet. The photos don’t reveal anything about the manufacturer of the tablet.

If we are to look back in history, the Nexus 7 (2012&2013) was manufactured by ASUS, Nexus 10 by Samsung, while the Nexus 9 was made by HTC.

So, who knows this year, since Google partnered up with LG for the Nexus 5 (2015) maybe the Korean tech was also tasked with producing the Nexus 8 tablet as well. At some point in the past, LG was said to be making a sequel to the Nexus 10 tablet.

For those of you who missed our earlier report on the matter, the Nexus 8 that got spotted in benchmarks was supposedly running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but we have to guess that, when the time comes for Google to launch it in the wild, the slate will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow onboard.

We’ve also seen that the tablet will be powered by an octa-core CPU clocked at 1.3GHz. The name of the chipset hasn’t been disclosed yet, but given the 1.3GHz clock speed, it doesn’t seem like we’re talking about a Snapdragon chipset, but a MediaTek one.

Excited about the prospect of a Nexus 8?
