The phone can only be turned back on using a charger

The Nexus 6P was among the first smartphones to receive Google's Android 7.0 Nougat update, and for the most part, everyone was happy with what they've got on their phones.

There were some issues with the initial rollout as some Nexus 6P experienced some problems with the battery after updating to Android 7.0 Nougat, but they were quickly fixed by Google.

After reports of Nexus 6P battery draining too fast, Google pushed another Android 7.0 Nougat update, which seems to have introduced another issue that affects the same piece of hardware inside the phone: the battery.

According to many Reddit users, the Nexus 6P randomly shuts itself down and can't be turned back on unless using a charger to “reset” it. The issue is easy to replicate since you only need to take a few pictures (as the video below shows) for the Nexus 6P to inexplicably shut itself down.

Even holding the power button pressed for a few seconds won't wake up the phone. The only workaround that some Nexus 6P owners found in order to turn the phone back on is to insert the charger cable into the USB Type-C port and wait for the battery icon to show up on the display. After that, the Power button should once again allow you to turn the Nexus 6P back on.

Some Nexus 6P owners suggest that, in order for this issue to disappear completely, a complete reset of all app permissions is necessary. It's also worth mentioning that Nexus 6P owners who managed to replicate the problem claim a factory reset does not remove it.

Other claim the problem affects the Nexus 6 as well, especially when loading energy hungry apps. While it's clear that this is a software issue, it doesn't seem to affect all Nexus 6P devices yet, so it's not a widespread problem.

Even so, many Nexus 6P owners have filed surveys on Google's support website, so the search giant is probably already aware of these issues. It will take some time though to roll out another software fix.
