Today, December 13, 2016, Nextcloud GmbH, the company behind the open-source, self-hosting, and privacy-aware cloud server software forked from ownCloud, was proud to announce the general availability of Nextcloud 11.

Bundled with numerous scalability, security, and performance improvements, Nextcloud 11 launches today attested by NCC Group, a global expert in cyber security and risk mitigation. It's an important milestone that introduces exciting new features and addresses many of the issues reported by users in Nextcloud 10.

"Nextcloud GmbH has become a fast growing company while the Nextcloud project is the largest and most active in its space," said Frank Karlitschek, Managing Director at Nextcloud GmbH. "This shows the trust customers place in a business offering a sustainable solution to real business needs."

Highlights of Nextcloud 11

Noteworthy changes in Nextcloud 11 include support for two-factor and Kerberos authentication support based on Universal 2nd Factor and Time-based One-Time Password, implementation of access rights on app-specific login tokens, as well as support for cutting-edge CSP 3.0 and same-site cookies browser security features.

Nextcloud 11 also implements brute force protection to all API access points, introduces automatic checking of apps and enforces signatures on the Nextcloud App Store, and provides users with more secure Federation by using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and TLS (Transport Layer Security) cryptographic protocols.

For its enterprise customers, Nextcloud 11 promises to lower the resource usage and decrease the database load by up to 60 percent to improve the scalability of the cloud server. Additionally, it introduces full-text search functionality based on Apache Solr, multi-bucket Object Store support, and great improvements to handling of previews.

Collabora Online speed improvements, an experimental Spreed app that integrates secure P2P (Peer-to-Peer) video and audio chat, and a central lookup server that lets Nextcloud users find each other regardless of the server their accounts belong to are among other exciting new features of today's Nexcloud 11 release.
