Netflix has just announced something that many users have been waiting for quite some time, the ability to download movies for offline view. The new feature is available to all subscribers worldwide regardless of what smartphone or tablet they use, as long as the minimum hardware requirements are met.

Although Netflix allows members to enjoy watching movies and TV shows at home, an option to use the service while on the move was not available until today.

So, starting this week, whenever you're on an airplane and other places where internet access is not available or is too expensive, you will be able to watch Netflix shows if you download them on your phone/tablet beforehand.

Netflix added a download button on the details page for a film or TV series, so you can watch it later without internet connection.

Not all movies or TV series are available for offline download

However, from what we've seen, not all streaming series and movies are available for download yet, but Netflix states that more are on the way, so there should be plenty of content available for those times when you're offline.

For the time being, we know for sure that Orange Is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown are available for download starting this week.

But, as mentioned earlier, expect additional series and movies to be available in the coming weeks. Make sure to check out if your favorite shows are available for offline download every time you log in to Netflix.

According to Netflix, the new feature is included in all plans and available for smartphones and tablets on both the Android and iOS platforms.

Obviously, in order to start using the download feature, you must update your Netflix application to the most recent version. If you don't have it on your phone/tablet, you can download it for free via Google Play or App Store.
