A new build could arrive early next week

Microsoft has already confirmed that Windows 10 build 14915 has a bug that breaks down Wi-Fi on older Surface Pro models or on devices with Marvell drivers, and the company has promised to release a fix as soon as possible with the next build for insiders.

And it appears that the fix is ready, as Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, has revealed on Twitter that an updated build that brings back Wi-Fi functionality will go live “in the next few days.”

So the next build should go live early next week for fast ring insiders, but it’s not yet clear if other new features will be included too or the focus will be on bug fixes - recently, it has emerged that Microsoft is working on several new features, including a People Bar, which could be included in preview builds in the coming weeks.

Available workaround for impacted PCs

At this point, it appears that only a small number of PCs are impacted by the Wi-Fi bug, as Dona Sarkar says that this is not by any means a widespread issue.

Those whose devices can no longer connect to wireless networks need to either use an Ethernet cable to be able to download the upcoming build or to roll back to a previous build where Wi-Fi is working correctly. Other than that, there’s no way to continue using Wi-Fi, so when the new build is published, you have to choose between these two to be able to download it.

“Our Engineering teams have quickly completed a root cause analysis of the issue and are working to get the fix checked-in to make it available in our next flight,” Microsoft explained.

So there you go, the fix is ready and will go live in the coming days, but as a side note for everyone, preview builds of Windows 10 are always prone to bugs because that’s the whole purpose of the Windows Insider program: to find and fix bugs before updates are released to users.
