Windows 10 Mobile is not out just yet, but sources close to the matter claim that Microsoft is already making plans for the Redstone update that’s supposed to launch later this year on both smartphones and PCs.

Now a new report coming from German site WinFuture.de reveals that Windows 10 Mobile Redstone update could come up with significant Continuum improvements as part of Microsoft’s attempt to improve the productivity side of its smartphones.

It’s believed that Continuum could bring touchscreen support with the Redstone update, so when connecting a Lumia phone to an external screen with touch capabilities, no mouse input would be needed. Touchscreen support could thus make Continuum easier to use on screens with such features, and Microsoft is reportedly working on this improvement already.

At the same time, the same source claims that Continuum could also support 2K monitors, again a welcome addition, given the fact that the feature could work on a wider variety of screens.

More customization and configuration features for Continuum are also expected, so it’s very clear that Microsoft’s banking on this side of the Lumia smartphones.

Redstone update for smartphones

Little is known about the Redstone update for Windows 10 Mobile as far as the release date is concerned, but if Microsoft wants to bring it out together with the PC sibling, the debut could take place in the summer.

Previous reports indicated that Microsoft was looking at mid-2016 as a potential release date for the Redstone update, and insiders are already running early builds of this significant update.

But for the moment, the next big thing happening for mobile users is the release of the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade for Windows Phone devices, which, according to new information coming from Microsoft Mexico, should see daylight later this month.

For the moment, it’s better to take everything with a pinch of salt since we’re so far from the release of the Redstone update, but it appears that things are taking shape quite nicely for Windows 10 Mobile.
