This could be another flagship manufactured by Microsoft

Microsoft has already launched its new flagship lineup running Windows 10 Mobile, which includes the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL, and now there’s evidence that the company might actually bring another high-end device to the market sometime next year.

Benchmarks posted on GFXBench show a new Windows 10 Mobile handset that’s powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 processor, which is the first sign that this new model could actually be a flagship, and not a mid-ranger or an affordable model.

NPU speculates that this could be a Lumia phone, despite the fact that it’s called “HP Falcon” in the benchmarks, but they say that, given the fact that HP isn’t yet working on a Windows 10 Mobile smartphone, it’s very unlikely to see a device show up out of nowhere.

Rumored specs

The phone spotted in these benchmarks, no matter if it’s a Lumia device or not, comes with really powerful technical specifications in addition to the aforementioned Snapdragon 820 processor.

Adreno 530 is the GPU, but there is also a 5.8-inch screen with a 2560x1440 pixels resolution. This means that it could be slightly bigger than the Lumia 950 XL, but it’ll certainly be a phablet supposed to take on the iPhone 6s Plus and the Galaxy Note5.

While it’s really hard to say if this is a Microsoft device or not, the chances are that it’s not because Redmond already has two flagships on the market, and launching another one would only cannibalize sales of the existing models. Plus, a 5.8-inch display is quite an unusual size for a phablet, but this information might not be entirely accurate in these benchmarks.

It remains to be seen if Microsoft is working on another high-end device running Windows 10 Mobile, besides the Surface Phone, of course, but it’s good to know that more high-end phones are being developed, no matter the company making them.
