Chuwi goes after Microsoft’s Surface with latest laptop

There’s no doubt that Microsoft’s Surface is a great series of products, though for many people out there even the most affordable model is a bit too expensive.

This is why Chinese Windows 10 clones are getting so much attention these days, especially because the focus on quality is increasing, so you’re no losing too much when buying such a device.

Chinese manufacturer Chuwi is going after the Microsoft Surface directly with its latest laptop, promising to offer a display that’s in line with what you can find on Redmond’s 2-in-1 device.

Specifically, the Chinese firm is introducing a new laptop that comes with a 12.3-inch display which, according to their statements, features a resolution of 2736x1824 pixels, just like the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. While this is no guarantee the same high-end display quality is being offered, Chuwi says the LapBook 12.3 can help you experience the full power of Windows 10 at a super-small price.

Price tag below $300

Although the price tag is not disclosed, the LapBook 12.3 is not expected to be more expensive than its bigger brother, the LapBook 14.1, which costs approximately $300.

As it usually happens in the PC world, what you pay is what you get, so a small price typically limits performance in other areas, in this case the CPU. The new laptop is powered by an Intel Apollo Lake N3450 processor with HD 500 graphics, but on the other hand, you get 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, with microSD card also likely to be offered for more storage.

Of course, you’ll get the full series of connectivity options, such as USB, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, but also a headphone jack to listen to music like on any other laptop.

The device will go on sale later this month and full details will be announced at that point, including pricing information to see how more affordable than the Surface Pro 4 the LapBook can get.
