Microsoft confirms a new build is due very soon

UPDATE: Dona Sarkar has just confirmed that no new build is coming out today (Thursday), so it's probably Friday.

"No builds on Thursday Jan 26th #WindowsInsiders. We are wrapping up engineering reviews today," she said. Original story below.

Microsoft will roll out a new Windows 10 Creators Update preview build this week, as the company’s Larry Hryb confirms that the Windows team is very close to pushing out a new release for insiders.

In a tweet that was published on January 26, Larry Hryb explained that he “spoke to Dona Sarkar and found out the Windows 10 Creators Update will be rolling out to Windows Insiders later this week. Not tomorrow.”

Larry obviously refers to the next build for insiders and not the final version of Windows 10 Creators Update as some people might be tempted to believe.

The timing, however, seems to be a little surprising, given the fact that the tweet went live on January 26 and the release would not take place “tomorrow.” This means that Microsoft won’t roll out the build on Thursday (January 26) or on Friday (January 27 = tomorrow), which could be an indication that we might witness the first Windows 10 build shipping during the weekend.

Working at full speed on getting new features ready

While we’re more inclined to believe that the next build release would take place on Thursday or Friday, it’s important to note that Microsoft doesn’t publish builds for Windows insiders during the weekend because of the work that needs to be done before and after this happens.

This would obviously mean that Windows engineers would have to work during the weekend to collect all the feedback that insiders send after installing the new build.

In the past, Microsoft also avoided rolling out builds on Monday or on Friday, but the company changed this policy on several occasions and updated insiders on Friday as well.

For the moment, there is no information as to what version number the next build could get, but it’s expected to bring a series of improvements anyway, especially because Microsoft is believed to be hard at work on finalizing new features for the Creators Update.

Once this happens, the firm would switch focus to bug fixing and performance improvements, ahead of the public release for all Windows 10 users due in April.
