The Surface Phone is expected to see daylight in early 2017, and it appears that the device would come in three versions, each targeting different buyer categories and featuring higher or lower specs.

Now a report coming from MobiPicker (whose legitimacy can't be confirmed right now) reveals that there will indeed be three different Surface Phone models, which will be powered by a Snapdragon 830 processor. This CPU will be specifically optimized for more power and reduced battery usage, and is expected to go live by the end of the year.

The Surface Phone will be a pioneer of the new processor, although other companies, including Samsung, are very likely to install it on their own devices too.

Three Surface Phone versions

Basically, the Surface Phone will be offered in three different configurations, each with its own specs and price (the better the specs, the higher the price).

First of all, there’ll be the entry-level Surface Phone coming with 3 GB of RAM and just 32 GB of internal storage. microSD card support is also likely to be offered for expanded storage.

Second of all, the mid-range Surface Phone will come with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. This will be the model that Microsoft plans to use to compete against the next Samsung Galaxy Note, especially because it’ll have comparable specs, with the company hoping to see Windows 10 Mobile keeping up with Android.

And last, there’ll be a Surface monster coming with 8 GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage, which is very likely to be specifically addressed to businesses and customers who want the most from the productivity side of the device. This model is also expected to come with other exclusive features that’ll take advantage of the high processing power, but little is known about this at the moment.

Other reports indicated the Surface Phone could come with a 20 MP camera, and a photo that got leaked today shows that it might also feature keyboard support for improved productivity.

The debut is projected to take place in the spring of 2017, when the second wave of the Redstone update is expected.
