The iPhone 8 is just around the corner, and new information from a source that proved to be right several times in the past indicates that the new device will reach $1,200 in top-of-the-line configuration.

Several analysts have predicted the iPhone 8 would be the most expensive iPhone released so far, with the top model to surpass the $1,000 milestone, and information that reached the web via unofficial channels hinted the base configuration could cost $999.

We speculated that with the most affordable version costing $999, prices would increase by adding another $100 as more storage space is being added, a strategy that Apple has embraced for the past iPhone models as well. This means the 256GB iPhone 8 could cost $1,099, while the top version would be priced at $1,199 for the 512GB of storage space.

Pre-orders to kick off September 15

Now Benjamin Geskin, who has a good track on Apple leaks, confirms these prices, indicating that the most expensive iPhone would indeed be available for $1,199.

What’s very important, however, is that the said leaked prices more or less confirm that Apple is bringing a 512GB version of the iPhone to the market, a move that’s particularly important given the increase in terms of camera performance, with photos and videos eating up more space. Without microSD card support, increasing the built-in storage is the only way to go, especially because not everyone agrees to store their data in the cloud.

The iPhone 8 will be unveiled on September 12, and pre-orders should begin the next Friday on September 15. As per Apple’s typical release schedule, shipments could kick off one week later on Friday 22, a roadmap that several sources, including Geskin himself, revealed in the last couple of months.

All details, including pricing and availability, will be revealed during Apple’s event, which will take place at the company’s new Apple Park headquarters in the Steve Jobs theater.
