Samsung working on small tablet powered by Windows 10

Samsung is said to be planning a new Windows 10 device called Galaxy Book, and now a smaller tablet has been spotted online as well, proving that the South Korean firm is betting big on Microsoft’s new operating system.

A smaller tablet codenamed SM-W627 was discovered on the FCC website, indicating that in addition to the Galaxy Book and the TabPro S2, Samsung might be working on a 10.6-inch tablet powered by Windows 10. Very little is known at this point, but it looks like Samsung is preparing a completely new lineup of Windows 10 devices and they could be announced at MWC very soon.

According to the FCC listing, the new Samsung device could feature 4G LTE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1, while connectivity and charging would take place via a USB Type-C port.

What’s interesting is that the tablet appears to be featuring support for a detachable keyboard, so most likely, Samsung isn’t planning to offer just a simple tablet, but a 2-in-1 device that can play a double role. This is similar to Microsoft’s Surface series, which can be both a tablet and a laptop using the detachable keyboard.

Samsung tight-lipped on Windows 10 plans

Samsung hasn’t yet confirmed work on the new device, so it’s difficult to tell whether this is the Galaxy Book that was teased by a Windows 10 app recently. On the other hand, the aforementioned information indeed seems to indicate that this tablet could launch as a “Book” given that it comes with support for keyboards.

It goes without saying, however, that a 10.6-inch device, although called Galaxy Book, can hardly be considered a rival to Microsoft’s Surface Book, especially given the fact that Microsoft markets its model as “the ultimate laptop” and comes with a bigger screen and top-notch hardware.

More information on Samsung’s Windows 10 plans will probably emerge in the coming days and weeks, but there’s no doubt that the South Korean firm is aiming to bet big on Microsoft’s latest operating system.
