An upcoming Galaxy X lineup might be on the way

Samsung is readying a new lineup of innovative devices, the long-rumored Galaxy X family. Most of these next-generation devices will include new technologies that have never been part of a mass-market product.

We reported not long ago about Samsung readying at least five new Galaxy X smartphones that will be launched on the market in Q3 and Q4 2017. Some of them leaked years ago as concepts that Samsung was probably testing in its laboratories.

It appears that after years of testing, Samsung managed to perfect the technology behind these Galaxy X smartphones, so we might see at least a few of them being announced as commercial products later this year.

A new set of patents filed by Samsung have been recently spotted by the folks over at Patently Mobile. They offer us a sneak peek into what's to come from the South Korean company.

It looks like there are three different patents that Samsung has filed, and one of them shows a foldable smartphone that features a hinge in-between both displays.

The other two patents seem to belong to upcoming Galaxy S smartphones, probably not the Galaxy S8, though, which is so close to being officially unveiled.

Surprisingly, both the foldable and the Galaxy S smartphones feature physical Home buttons, which Samsung is expected to ditch in the Galaxy S8 model.

However, the Home button is not the reason the South Korean company has filed for these patents, so they might not be part of the final products.

These aren't the first nor the last Samsung patents referring to foldable smartphones that we will probably see this year, which makes the latter part of 2017 even more interesting.

Since we've been waiting for so long for this type of technology to be included in smartphones, we sincerely hope that a couple of the devices shown in these sketches will make it to the market in the next 1 or 2 years.
