14 DAY TRIAL // Neptune Linux developer Leszek Lesner proudly announced this weekend the availability of a new ISO snapshot for the Neptune Plasma 5 edition of the Debian-based GNU/Linux distribution.
The new Neptune Plasma 5 ISO is shipping with the latest KDE Applications 17.04 software suite, which includes numerous improvements and new features for the Dolphin file manager, Kdenlive video editor, Kate text editor, Ark archive manager, Konsole terminal emulator, Okular PDF viewer, and Gwenview image viewer.
It also includes last month's KDE Frameworks 5.33.0 collection of add-on libraries for Qt 5, which appears to be the base of this new ISO snapshot for the month of May 2017, bringing numerous bug fixes and improvements. Additionally, the Excalibur applications menu received support for scrolling of favorites and other goodies.
"We are proud to announce the may update for our Neptune Plasma 5 ISO. This version comes again with numerous detail improvements. We updated the Excalibur application menu and improved it to support scrolling through your favorites and showing more than 3 sysactions," said Lesner in the announcement.
SDDM is now the default login manager
Another interesting change implemented in the new Neptune Plasma 5 ISO snapshot is the replacement of the KDM (KDE Display Manager) with SDDM as default login manager. The latest release of SDDM is included, according to the Neptune Linux devs, and it features a Neptune-like theme by default.
Of course, the applications stack has been updated, and the May 2017 update of the Neptune Plasma 5 ISO ships with Mozilla Thunderbird 45.8.0 as default email client instead of Icedove, as well as an up-to-date libc6 core library to improve compatibility with latest MPV, VLC, Mesa, X11, and Enlightenment releases.
The Neptune Plasma 5 20170512 Live ISO image is available for download right now on our website if you want to deploy the Linux-based operating system on new computers, but existing users need only to update their installations via the stable repositories if they want to receive all the goodies mentioned above.
