The upcoming LG G6 will ditch the modular design

The G6 will surely be LG’s flagship for next year and considering the low sales of its predecessor, we’re quite curious as to what changes the company has brought to the latest phone in the LG G series. Leaked renders show a significant change in design, revealing that the G6 won’t follow in its predecessor’s footsteps and will ditch the modular design.

Renders and videos spotted by tipster @OnLeaks show the G6 will most likely do away with the modular design, after the G5 didn’t do so well on the market. That’s not to say that there isn’t a market for modular smartphones, Lenovo’s Moto Z series released this year was received with enthusiasm and was found to be one of the most successful smartphone lines of 2016.

The latest renders are somewhat similar to the images spotted yesterday, and the G6 appears to have the same dark and sleek design. The smartphone is said to come with a 5.3-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and have a completely flat screen. Moreover, it will be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chipset and have a power button on the back, with an embedded fingerprint scanner.

The LG G6 might be announced in February next year

The bottom of the smartphone houses a USB Type-C port, while the 3.5mm earphone jack is located on top. Fans will be pleased to know that LG isn’t following the trend launched by Motorola and Apple, and will keep the earphone jack.

The G6 might have a dual-camera setup on the back, which is said to incorporate dual-tone flash. The smartphone will measure about the same as the G5, 149.4 x 72.43 mm, but its thickness is unknown at this point.

Rumor has it that LG intends to announce the G6 during MWC 2017, one month earlier than its usual launch date. The company might also get a head start and make the G6 available in stores in March, earlier than Samsung’s Galaxy S8.
