New information emerges on the 2017 iPhones

Apple is expected to announce three new iPhone models later this year, including a special edition version that would celebrate the 10th anniversary of the company's flagship product.

Even though so many details have leaked until now, there still are some contradictory rumors on the next-generation iPhone, including speculation regarding the location of the Touch ID sensor. While some leaks pointed out to a fingerprint reader placed on the back of the phone, similar to Android devices like Google's Pixel XL, others pointed to a new technology that has the sensor placed under the display.

This means that users would be able to scan their fingerprints just like on the existing generation, but without a physical Home button, so they'd only have to touch the display with the registered finger. This is a technology that was also said to be adopted by Samsung on the S8 series, but which reportedly wasn't ready, though it could make its way to the Note 8 lineup coming later this year.

The schematics that got leaked today via @VenyaGeskin1 show that Apple is indeed preparing 3 different models of the new iPhone, with two of them showing up in these drawings. There will be an iPhone 7s Plus (and definitely the standard iPhone 7s), as well as an iPhone 8 featuring an OLED screen.

The latter model will be the anniversary version of the iPhone and is also likely to come with a new design, including a bezel-less body with a display that could go all the way up to 5.8 inches. Its final size, however, is likely to be close to the one of the existing iPhone 7 thanks to narrower bezels.

According to today's leak, the iPhone 8 will measure 143.4 x 70.77 x 7.51 mm and will feature a vertically-mounted dual-camera on the back. The Touch ID is nowhere to be seen in the pics, which is likely an indication that it's placed under the display.

As far as the second model is concerned, it's the iPhone 7s Plus, which will measure 158.38 x 78.1 mm. In this case, the differences from the current model are just subtle, and the same bezels are likely to be maintained. The existing iPhone 7 Plus has 158.2 x 77.9 mm in size.

Without a doubt, the star of the show will be the anniversary model, and if these schematics are real, then they settle two important matters: the fingerprint sensor will be placed under the display and the iPhone 7s/iPhone 7s Plus will feature just subtle upgrades over the current generation.
