Apple is working hard on the upcoming iPhone 8 or iPhone X, the device that will mark the ten-year anniversary since the first iPhone was announced. According to reports, Apple has decided to bring several major changes to the new phone.
iPhone 8 will be the first iPhone to feature an OLED display, as well as wireless charging and no physical home button, a move which its main competitor Samsung has also employed. iPhone 8 was imagined in a number of concepts, the latest one having been created by designer Gabor Balogh.
What’s different about this concept is the inclusion of augmented reality features to Apple’s AI virtual assistant, Siri. The new features would allow Siri and widgets to connect with the outside world.
Augmented reality features baked into Siri
The designer believes that Apple won’t adopt the Touch bar of the MacBook Pro on its new iPhone, as it would clash with the virtual home button. In addition, the home button would retain its position at the bottom of the screen, in a function area.
iPhone 8 would have augmented reality features baked into Siri, which would allow the virtual assistant to recognize the user’s environment and objects when holding the phone up and pointing the main camera. Renders show Siri recognizing and offering info about landmarks or directions to a specific destination, based on the user’s current location.
Contextual widgets are imagined as tools that would appear next to the home/Siri button and offer options like the camera or shortcuts to various apps, including Facebook. The designer also imagined a feature that would allow users to point the phone at family members or friends and get information about their health, like heart rate, number of breaths per minute, and body temperature.
The designer’s concept is based on recent iPhone 8 rumors and Apple acquisitions, but there’s no guarantee that the phone will look exactly like this or that AR technology would be integrated in such a way, although we sure hope so.
