Gears of War Ultimate edition, the upcoming remastered version of the original Gears of War 1 title, has just received a fresh video from developer The Coalition and publisher Microsoft, this time showcasing the special gameplay improvements made by the studio to ensure that the title lives up to expectations.

Gears of War is one of the most important Xbox 360 franchises of all time, and developer The Coalition is working hard not only on a brand new installment, in the form of Gears of War 4, but also on the upcoming Gears of War Ultimate edition, which remastered the very first game in the series for the Xbox One.

The studio has already explained how it's overhauling the game's cut scenes to show more detail and extra elements that clarify the events, and now, through a special video, it's emphasizing the gameplay improvements made over the original.

The original gameplay got quite a few enhancements

While initially the team didn't want to make that many changes to the first title, it soon found that players had certain expectations, especially after Gears of War 2 and 3. As such, it made several tweaks to the cover system, while adding the Team Deathmatch mode to the multiplayer.

The cover elements became less sticky so that players can remain mobile on the battlefield, whereas the Team Deathmatch mode was brought over from Gears 2 and 3 and optimized to ensure that everything ran smoothly and at a 60fps framerate on the Xbox One.

"The Coalition taps into the nostalgia and feel of the original, while bringing over the best elements from later games. Leaving the fundamentals intact, the team surgically blended gameplay and game mode elements to give players the kind of experience they expect from modern gameplay," the studio explains.
