CloudLinux's Mykola Naugolnyi is urging users of the CloudLinux 7 and CloudLinux 6 enterprise-ready operating systems to upgrade their kernel packages immediately if they are using the Beta channel.

New kernel updates have been pushed to the Beta channel, where CloudLinux's kernel developers are testing new Linux kernel versions that will soon be pushed to the stable channel if no blockers are found. CloudLinux is a server enterprise OS based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, in a way similar to CentOS.

CentOS 7 recently received an important kernel update, so today CloudLinux 7 and CloudLinux 6 users are also receiving updated Linux kernels, namely version 3.10.0-427.36.1.lve1.4.33 for CloudLinux 7 systems and version 2.6.32-673.26.1.lve1.4.21 for CloudLinux 6 machines.

Here's what's been fixed in the new Beta kernels

Among the changes since version kernel-3.10.0-427.36.1.lve1.4.32 for CloudLinux 7, there's the implementation of a missing IO PREPARE to limit I/O operations, as well as various code improvements. On the other hand, since version 2.6.32-673.26.1.lve1.4.20 for CloudLinux 6, the devs managed to fix a recently discovered race condition in the SCSI subsystem.

These problems can be patched if you update your CloudLinux 7 or CloudLinux 6 installations, as well as CloudLinux 5 Hybrid installs to the new kernel versions mentioned above. To update, simply open a terminal emulator and copy/paste the following commands. A reboot might be required after installing new kernels.

For CloudLinux 7
yum install kernel-3.10.0-427.36.1.lve1.4.33.el7 kmod-lve-1.4-33.el7 --enablerepo=cloudlinux-updates-testing
For CloudLinux 6
yum install kernel-2.6.32-673.26.1.lve1.4.21.el6 kmod-lve-1.4-21.el6 --enablerepo=cloudlinux-updates-testing
For CloudLinux 5 Hybrid
yum install kernel-2.6.32-673.26.1.lve1.4.21.el5h kmod-lve-1.4-21.el5h --enablerepo=cloudlinux-hybrid-testing
