BlackBerry is gearing up to launch its first Android device

BlackBerry might have confirmed that its Android slider product, the BlackBerry Priv, is coming, but that doesn’t mean the company has shared all the details about it. However, the device maker did show us a bunch of official images featuring the handset, so we have a pretty good idea what to expect from it.

While we wait for the Canadian company to make the phone official, N4BB has taken the opportunity to share a bunch of new, hands-on images that reveal a few details we didn’t know until now. For starters, we can now see that the Android-based smartphone is powered by a 64-bit processor which is probably the hexa-core Snapdragon 808, although at this moment we can’t be 100% sure this is the case.

Furthermore, another one of the photos reveals that the Priv can shoot 4K video (at 30fps) with an 18MP rear camera, another piece of good news. The snapper is also tipped to feature autofocus and LED flash. No info so far about the selfie shooter, though.

What BlackBerry Priv is all about

Priv is the company’s first Android handset, which has been designed with a focus on security. In the wake of the discovery of the Stagefright vulnerability, users have been re-orienting their attention towards mobile devices built with a focus on security, like the BlackPhone 2. So Priv’s timing couldn’t be better, it seems.

The Canadian company has confirmed the Priv, but it hasn’t shared any official specs, so all we know about the device hardware-wise comes from the rumor mill. According to word on the street, the Priv is bound to make a debut with a 5.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display that offers support for QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels).

As we told you before, the inside is probably reserved to the Snapdragon 808 processor which also fuels products such as the LG G4, Motorola Moto X Style, and Nexus 5X (made by LG).

Moving along, the phone will take advantage of 3GB of RAM in combination with an unknown quantity of built-in storage (although we know there’s microSD card slot support on board).

Are you excited to get your hands on the Priv?
