A new image for Warner Bros.’ Zack Snyder-directed “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” has been released with the cover of the September 2015 issue of Empire magazine. The online preview promises that the issue will take fans backstage on one of the highest anticipated 2016 releases.

So look for it on newsstands later this week.

First off, the photo: it shows Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman standing side by side, with Gotham as background for Batman and Metropolis for Superman. They’re not allies, though, and the photo makes it very clear.

It also promises a look “inside the greatest superhero showdown of all time,” which means an interview with Snyder on the direction he plans to take the studio’s Justice League universe.

“There is just this gravitas to Batman,” he is quoted as saying. “He is operatic.”

Meanwhile, Superman continues to be regarded as an alien, but he’s no longer seen as the savior of our world. In “Man of Steel,” also directed by Snyder, Superman destroyed half of Metropolis in an epic battle against invader General Zod, so he will get to suffer the consequences of that in “Batman V. Superman.”

We already know, from previous interviews, that Batman will take it upon himself to bring Superman to justice.
