The Moto Z is one of the few smartphones that haven't been released with Android 7.0 Nougat on board, but now runs one of the latest versions of Google's operating system.

While Motorola hasn't yet released Android 7.1.1 Nougat for the Moto Z, at least it did upgrade the phone to Android 7.0 Nougat, but we can't say the same thing about other major handset makers like Samsung.

Today, a new update has hit Moto Z units all around the world, but even though it's a fairly sizable download, the official changelog doesn't mention too many things.

According to AndroidAuthority, the update is meant to address a certain low volume notification sound issue that's been afflicting Moto Z units for a long time. Aside from that, the update with build number NPL25.86-17-3 shouldn't bring anything else into the mix.

The changelog of the update only mentions the issue with the volume notification sound, but there might be something more than this since the update file weighs in at 540MB in size.

A half GB update should contain more than just a single bug fix. If you're wondering whether or not Motorola added the latest December security patch into the update as well, then the answer is no.

Even after the update, the Moto Z will remain with the November security update and Android 7.0 Nougat OS version, so we can remove that from the list of possible changes.

Anyway, Moto Z owners who have been complaining about the low volume notification sound issue should now check their phones for the update. Since it's probably pushed in stages, it will take a while to propagate to all Moto Z units across the world.

If you haven't been notified about the update yet, you can manually check for it by heading to Settings / About phone / Update. Let us know in the comments section if you've noticed any other changes after applying the update.
