After one and a half years of silence, the Netrunner Rolling series make a comeback today with the release of version 2017.07, based on Arch Linux and Manjaro operating systems.

By our count, Netrunner Rolling 2017.07 is here sixteen months after the Netrunner Rolling 2016.01 release, which was unveiled on February 27, 2016, and it's an up-to-date version with all the latest GNU/Linux technologies. The good news is that it's here to stay, and will receive regular updates 3 or 4 for times a year.

"That means 18 months after its last release, Netrunner is now available again on the two biggest non-commercial, community-driven distributions: Debian and Arch/Manjaro," reads the release announcement. "Like with the Debian version, our plan is to release an updated install medium regularly 3-4 x times a year."

Here's what's new in Netrunner Rolling 2017.07

Highlights of Netrunner Rolling 2017.07 include the KDE Plasma 5.10.3 desktop environment, along with the KDE Applications 17.04.2 software suite and KDE Frameworks 5.35.0, all built against the Qt 5.9.0 application framework. Under the hood, it's powered by the Linux 4.11.8 kernel.

As for the software components included in the Netrunner Rolling 2017.07 installation images, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox 54.0.1 web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird 52.2.1 email and news client, LibreOffice 5.2.7 office suite, SMPlayer as the new default media player, and KDE Neon's Imagewriter utility.

The rest is pretty much the same as it was in the Netrunner Rolling 2016.01 release, which you can upgrade to Netrunner Rolling 2017.07 if you use the built-in update system, or you can do a fresh install using the 64-bit Live ISO image that you can download right via our web portal or from the official website.
